The present-day adaptation of Rajshri's own classic TAPASYA [Raakhee, Parikshit Sahni], EK VIVAAH... AISA BHI is a simple story of sacrifice that aims at pulling your heart strings. Every Rajshri film works for two reasons -- the storyline and strong emotions -- and EK VIVAAH... AISA BHI follows the tradition well.
Of course, a story like the one in this film may seem regressive to the multiplex junta of metros, but the fact remains that cinema is all about narrating stories and EK VIVAAH... AISA BHI has a strong story to tell. Besides, there're ample moments in this film that strike a chord, that touch the core of your heart, that make you moist-eyed. And that's where this film scores big time. It's really disheartening to note that family sagas have actually disappeared from the face of Hindi movies. Come, watch EK VIVAAH... AISA BHI with your family and re-connect with your roots!
<>Chandni [Isha Koppikar] belongs to a middle class family, living in one of the tiny bylanes of Bhopal. She lives with her father and younger siblings -- Anuj [Master Amey Pandya/Vishal Malhotra] and Sandhya [Baby Ishita Panchal/Amrita Prakash]. Chandni, who is deeply attached to her school-going brother and sister, is trained in classical and folk music. During a stage performance, she falls in love with Prem [Sonu Sood]. Prem hails from a rich business family.
Life is picture perfect, until on the day of their engagement, Chandni's father [Alok Nath] passes away. Suddenly, she becomes the eldest in her family. On one hand, her mehendi adorned hands beckon her to the dream home of her fiancé. On the other hand are her younger siblings whom she cannot take along. Chandni decides not to marry, so that she can raise her little brother and sister with self respect.
Prem understands her and waits for Chandni for twelve long years, until she fulfils all the responsibilities as an elder sister.
Debutante director Kaushik Ghatak [a known name on television circuit] remains faithful to the subject material and most importantly, captures the sensitive moments well. The tale of sacrifice has been witnessed time and again, but it works only if the characters make you cry, even weep. In the latter part of EK VIVAAH... AISA BHI, you can't stop tears rolling down your cheeks at several points in the story, especially the Raksha Bandhan sequence and towards the end, when the brother returns with his wife. Rajshri has placed ample trust in Ghatak and the debutante doesn't let you down one bit.
On the flipside, the music [Ravindra Jain] could've been better. 'Mujhme Zinda Hai Woh' is the only track that merits a mention. Also, too many songs in the first hour put you off after a point. Dialogues are good at places. Both Sonu Sood and Isha Koppikar vie for top honours. Sonu is restrained, mature and acts the part well. Isha is first-rate, exuding simplicity and strength that this character demands. Alok Nath is very good. Ditto for Vallabh Vyas and Smita Jaykar. Vishal Malhotra springs a surprise. He's excellent. Chhavi Mittal is effective as the sister-in-law. Amrita Prakash doesn't get much scope. Anang Desai is okay.
On the whole, EK VIVAAH... AISA BHI is akin to a delicious Indian thali in times of Pastas and Pizzas. You may opt for international cuisine at times, but Indian food, for an Indian at heart, would never go out of vogue. At the box-office, expectedly, the film may start slow, but it has the merits to climb the ladder with each passing show. The strategy of releasing the film at single screens and that too at limited centres makes wise business sense, since EK VIVAAH... AISA BHI is not the multiplex kind of movie. Business at single screens of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar should be the best.

Though no full-length Indian feature film is competing at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Ketan Mehta's Rang Rasiya added some Indian color to the event.
The movie, based on the story of the legendary 19th-century Indian painter Raja Ravi Verma, was promoted.
India's own stories and yet won global recognition. That should be a source of inspiration for all of us today.
Portions of the film were screened throughout the evening. A distinct Indian flavour was added to the event
by Rajasthani folk musicians who enchanted the gathering with their traditional songs.

Quantum of Solace is the 22nd James Bond film by EON Productions, due for release in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2008 and in North America on 14 November. The sequel to Casino Royale (2006), it is directed by Marc Forster, and features Daniel Craig's second performance as James Bond. Casino Royale's Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade returned as writers, alongside newcomer Joshua Zetumer. In the film, Bond battles Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a member of the Quantum organisation posing as an environmentalist, who intends to stage a coup d'état in Bolivia to take control of its water supply. Bond seeks revenge for the death of Vesper Lynd, and is assisted by Camille (Olga Kurylenko), who also wants to kill Greene. The title was chosen from an unrelated short story in Ian Fleming's For Your Eyes Only (1960).
Producer Michael G. Wilson created the film's story while Casino Royale was shooting. The film was originally scheduled for a 2 May 2008 release, but it was pushed back to allow more time when Roger Michell dropped out as director. Second unit filming began in August 2007 at Siena and Madrid, before principal photography began in January 2008 at Pinewood Studios. Production designer Dennis Gassner took over from Peter Lamont, who retired after working on eighteen Bond films. Gassner designed the five major Pinewood sets, which stand in for Siena, Bolivia, and the MI6 headquarters. His designs are close to the modernism of Ken Adam, the first Bond production designer. Location filming took place in Panama, Chile, Italy and Austria, before moving back to Pinewood in June. There will be more gadgets than in Casino Royale, though they will still aim to be realistic.
Beginning almost an hour after Casino Royale, Bond is then involved in a car chase in Siena, Italy. The official synopsis shows that after his capture Mr. White reveals to Bond and M that his organisation, Quantum, has agents in Her Majesty's Government and the Central Intelligence Agency. Forensic evidence of an MI6 traitor leads Bond to Haiti, where he meets Camille, who then helps him find Dominic Greene, a ruthless businessman and chairman of Greene Planet, the legitimate cover for Quantum.
Greene intends to use his government contacts to help overthrow the current regime in Bolivia, and place the exiled General Medrano as the head of state. Medrano will in exchange give him a barren piece of land, which will actually give them total control of the nation's water supply. Bond travels to Austria and South America to unravel Greene's plan, staying one step ahead of the CIA, terrorists, and M whilst trying to keep his desire for retribution over Vesper Lynd's death in check.
Marine shooting being carried out at Fort Sherman
* Daniel Craig as James Bond: Craig said Bond is "still too headstrong and doesn't always make the right decisions". Writer Paul Haggis added Bond will be "a very human and flawed assassin, a man who has to navigate a morally complex and often cynical world while attempting to hold onto his deep beliefs of what is right and wrong". The actor advised Haggis on the script and, as a fan of Marc Forster's films, helped choose him as the director. Craig's physical training for his reprise of the role placed extra effort into running and boxing, to spare him the injuries he sustained on his stunts in the first film. He also practised speedboating and stunt driving. Craig felt Casino Royale was [physically] "a walk in the park" compared to Quantum of Solace. While filming in Pinewood, he suffered a gash to his face, which required eight stitches.
* Mathieu Amalric as Dominic Greene, a leading member of Quantum posing as a businessman working in reforestation and charity funding for environmental science. Craig confirmed "there is a connection" between Greene and Vesper Lynd. Amalric acknowledged taking the role was an easy decision because, "It's impossible to say to your kids that 'I could have been in a Bond film but I refused.'"Amalric wanted to wear make-up for the role, but Forster explained that he wanted Greene not to look grotesque, but to symbolise the hidden evils in society. Amalric revealed Greene "doesn't know how to fight, [so] James Bond would be more surprised. Sometimes anger can be much more dangerous. I'm going to fight like in school." Amalric modelled his performance on "the smile of Tony Blair [and] the craziness of Sarkozy," the latter of whom he called "the worst villain we [the French] have ever had [...] he walks around thinking he's in a Bond film." He later claimed this was not criticism of either politician, but rather an example of how a politician relies on performance instead of a genuine policy to win power. "Sarkozy, is just a better actor than [his presidential opponent] Ségolène Royal – that's all," he explained. Bruno Ganz was also considered for the part.
Marc Forster chose the Atacama Desert to represent Bond's vengefulness in the climax
* Olga Kurylenko as Camille, a Russian-Bolivian agent and the lead Bond girl. She has her own vendetta regarding Greene and Quantum. The producers said Camille is someone "who challenges Bond and helps him come to terms with the emotional consequences of Vesper's betrayal". "At the beginning she is an opponent [of Bond], but they are going to have to collaborate, " the actress further said. "We'll see if she's a villain." Kurylenko spent three weeks training to fight with weapons, and she learnt a form of indoor skydiving known as body flying.Kurylenko dislikes stunts, but overcame her fears because of Craig's friendliness. She was given a DVD box set of the films since the Bond franchise was not easily available to watch where she grew up in Ukraine. The producers had intended to cast a South American actress in the role. Kurylenko trained with a dialect coach to perform with a Spanish accent, which was easy as "I have a good ear, so I can imitate people", and because her accent was not made heavy.
Preparations for the Bregenzer Festspiele's performance of Tosca
* Gemma Arterton as MI6 Agent Fields, who works at the British consulate in Bolivia. Arterton was chosen from around 1500 candidates. One of the casting directors asked her to audition for the role, having seen her portray Rosaline in Love's Labour's Lost at the Globe Theatre. Arterton said Fields was "not so frolicsome" as other Bond girls, but is instead "fresh and young, not [...] a femme fatale". Her character is a homage to the '60s Bond girls. Her hair in the film is modelled after Diana Rigg, who played Tracy Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, who is one of her favourite Bond girls along with Honor Blackman.
* Judi Dench as M. She said M's relationship with Bond becomes "pretty prickly".M's husband, who was briefly seen sleeping next to her in Casino Royale, will also be heard off-screen in the film.
* Anatole Taubman as Elvis, Dominic's cousin and second-in-command. He has a bowl cut. His name was chosen by Paul Haggis, which Taubman found cool, but he avoided making Elvis Presley jokes to avoid losing the role. Taubman imagined Elvis once lived on the streets before being inducted into Quantum by Dominic, and he constantly discussed his backstory with Amalric. He called Elvis "a bit of a goofball. He thinks he's all that but he's not really. [...] He's not a comic guy. He definitely takes himself very serious, but maybe by his taking himself too serious he may become friendly."
* Joaquin Cosío as General Medrano, who is Bond's enemy in Latin America. Greene is helping the exiled general get back into power, in return for support of his organisation.
* Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter, Bond's CIA ally who aided him at Casino Royale in Montenegro. This will mark only the second time the same actor has appeared as Leiter twice since David Hedison played the character in Live and Let Die (1973) and Licence to Kill (1989).Early script drafts gave Leiter a larger role, but his screentime has been restricted by on-set rewrites.
* Giancarlo Giannini as René Mathis, a French double agent who helps Bond discover for whom Le Chiffre and Mr. White worked.
* Neil Jackson as Mr. Slate, a henchman who has a fight with Bond.
* Jesper Christensen as Mr. White, whom Bond captured after he stole the money won at Casino Royale in Montenegro.
* Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner, a recurring member of the MI6 staff, later destined to be Chief of Staff.
* Tim Pigott-Smith as the British Foreign Secretary.
* Simon Kassianides as Yusef, who has a confrontation with Bond in Moscow towards the end of the film.
* Stana Katic as Corinne Veneau, an associate of Yusef.
* David Harbour as Gregg Beam, a contact of Felix Leiter who is known to speak directly to 'M' in the film.
* Glenn Foster as Henry Mitchell, rumoured to be an MI6 double agent.
Fernando Guillén Cuervo and Jesús Ochoa have minor roles as the Bolivian Chief of Police and Medrano's Lieutenant Orso respectively. Kiera Chaplin, granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, appears as a receptionist.
The film will premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square on 29 October 2008. The Princes William and Harry will attend, and proceeds from the screening will be donated to the charities Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion. The film was scheduled to be released in the British Isles and North America on 7 November. EON pushed forward the British date to 31 October during filming, while the American date was pushed back in August to 14 November, after Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had been moved to 2009 (17th July), thereby allowing the distributors to market the film over the Thanksgiving period. In Australia, the film was moved a week to 19 November, after 20th Century Fox chose to release Baz Luhrmann's Australia on its original date of 26 November, and concerns from distributors over audiences being forced to choose between two major films.
For India - 7th November 2008.
Corgi International Limited will release 5-inch action figures and gadgets (such as a voice-activated briefcase), as well as their traditional die-cast toy vehicles. They will also release 7-inch figures of characters from the previous films. Scalextric will release four racing sets to coincide with the film.
Returning product placement partners from Casino Royale include Ford, Heineken Pilsener, Smirnoff, Omega SA, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Sony Ericsson. Avon are creating a fragrance called Bond Girl 007 with Gemma Arterton as the "face" of the product.
Although no release of a novelisation of the film's screenplay has been announced, Penguin Books has published a compilation of Fleming's short stories entitled Quantum of Solace: The Complete James Bond Short Stories, with a UK release date of 29 May 2008 and a North American release date of 26 August 2008.
In May 2006 Activision acquired non-exclusive rights to develop and publish James Bond games; an exclusive deal with Activision took effect in September 2007. During an earnings report, Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision, announced that their first Bond game would be released in May 2008. Previously it was reported by Variety that Activision's first game is a tie-in to Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, with the title being Quantum of Solace. Sony Pictures Television has also announced a mobile game.

Cinematography: Savita Singh
Action: Allan Amin
writer - screenplay : Milind Gadagkar
Direction: Ram Gopal Varma
Producer: Azam Khan & Parvez Damania
Release date: 22 August 2008
Rajeev (Sudeep) is a young and successful construction engineer with ambitious plans. He is an atheist. He has a religious wife and two kids. He fires a woman called Madhu (Aswini Kalsekar) and her husband for indulging in fraud. In turn she uses black magic on the little daughter of Rajeev. The rest of the story is all about how an atheist like Sudeep believes in Black magic and saves his daughter.
Actors:
Sudeep is very good as an atheist. Amrutha Khanvilkar is pretty as housewife. Aswini Kalsekar is excellent as the eccentric black magic woman. Ahsaas Channa steals the show as the girl who is possessed. Zakir Hussain is superb with a scary get-up as the blind black magic specialist.
Screenplay - direction: Story of the film does deal with black magic. By balancing the story between the scientific aspect and supernatural aspect of the black magic, the director could sustain the interest among the audiences. Ram Gopal Varma never ventured out of way to create scariness by doing unnecessary scenes except for a couple of dream sequences (hero and the maid). The screenplay of the film is interesting. Direction of the film is good. And the characterizations are good.
Technical departments: Ram Gopal Varma extracted the best out of his technicians. Background music is very good. Cinematography is excellent. I liked the slow camera movements and the positioning of camera in most of the scenes. Dialogues are good. Art work is fine. He made sure that the soft toys chosen for the kids are weird so that it would help in creating scary ambiance. Most of the film is shot in two locations (house and construction site).
Analysis: In the beginning of his career, Ram Gopal Varma used to make horror thrillers just for the sake of scaring the audiences. He used to concentrate more on fear factor than the emotional quotient. But contrary to his earlier horror films, Ram Gopal Varma narrated this film more sensibly by not depending on unnecessary scenes in order the scare the people. Hence he mixed the thrill elements into the emotional aspect. Those people who expect lot of scariness in the film would find it little disappointing. The plus points of the film are technical aspects and sensible story telling. The negative point is the slow-paced narration. On a whole, Ram Gopal Varma's Phoonk is worth a watch if you like films of this genre.

Shah Rukh Khan Goes for the Spikey LookShah Rukh Khan would not sport a Spikey or Spiky (the way you call it) look for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. SRK has always sported a different and new look everytime he works with Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films. He was at his coolest in Diwale Dulhaniya Le jayenge with pretty cool hair do and some amazing jackets and shirts. We saw him get better in Dil to Pagal Hai sporting CK Tees to elegant designer suits. Mohabbatein gave birth to a all new classy cool look in spite of the geeky glasses which he wore. Not to forget that the shoes he wore in Mohabbatein still sell hot!
King Khan shed his ultra glamorous look to become the coach of the indian national hockey team in Chak De India. Post Chak de, its was tough to find people clean shaved on the streets of India. 2. Billo Barber...
Director Priyadarshan admits he had written the female lead of his forthcoming Billo Barber with favourite actress Tabu in mind but had to settle for Lara Dutta instead due to date problems.Priyadarshan and Tabu have done great work together in films like Viraasat and Kala Pani. The versatile actress even agreed to do an inconsequential role in Hera Pheri only for Priyadarshan' s sake.
Billo Barber is being produced by superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Priyadarshan wanted Tabu to star in it. But after she opted out, Lara bagged the role.
Said Priyadarshan: "It's a role of a full-on firebrand village girl. And it's patterned on Tabu's role in my Viraasat. I've to admit I think of Tabu for every female lead. But Lara is sensitive and strong enough to carry this role off with élan."
He said that Lara plays the wife of a barber, portrayed by Irrfan Khan.
"Though the character belongs to a higher caste, she defies social norms and the diktats of the village to marry a barber. Lara's sophisticated image hasn't come in the way of her performance at all. She'll shock you," said Priyadarshan.
Shahrukh Khan will be seen for the first time in a comic movie of director Priyadarshan . The movie is expected to be titled Billo Barber. The story of the movie is supposed to be a modern adaptation of the Krishna-Sudama' s friendship.
The story of the film would be based on the friendship of two person among which one is rich and other is poor. Irrfan Khan is expected to do the role of poor friend who is a village barber in this comic film.
The idea of presenting this friendship in a comic way is interesting enough to catch people's attention towards it. And with the presence of two superb actors of bollywood in it, this movie has become a must watch.
The two actors are of totally different sorts of personalities and it would be worth to watch them together on screen. Three bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor , Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra will also be seen in the movie.

Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) has given the go-ahead to Mani Shankar's Mukhbiir, which was caught up in a row between the production house and the director. The film will now be released July 18.
"There were some controversies between the director Mani Shankar and PNC, but the matter has now been sorted out. Yesterday I received an SMS from PNC saying that they have no objection to the release of the film," Sudhish Rambholta, the producer, at the premiere of the film.
Confirming this, Pritish Nandy said, "Mani has paid us the money that he owed to the company two days back and we have no objection against the release of the film. The matter has been sorted out."
The espionage thriller was screened here at the two-day premiere of the 10th Osian’s-Cinefan Film Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema. Earlier the film was set to release June 27, but it has been deferred because the producers wanted time for promotional work. Pyramid Saimira is presenting it.
Mani Shankar, reluctant to divulge any details about the dispute, said, "Everything is now sorted out and the film is ready for release."
Earlier, PNC sent a letter of objection to the producer of the film asking him to halt its release as the director allegedly owed Rs.1.2 million to PNC.
Mukhbiir, an action-thriller based on the life of an informer, has a remarkable cast comprising Om Puri, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Rahul Dev, and Raima Sen with Sameer Dattani playing the title character.

Tewnty one-year old G V Prakash could not have asked for more! At such a young age, he got a chance to compose music for the superstar of Tamil cinema, Rajnikanth.
The icing on the cake was the presence of his illustrious uncle, A R Rahman at the Tamil as well as Telugu films' (Kadhanayakudu) audio launch on Monday.
Prakash also got country's best singers -- Shankar Mahadevan, Chitra and Sadhana Sargam -- to sing for him. What many don't know is that Daler Mehndi has sung the title song -- his first for a Tamil film.
It is interesting to note that Big Music bought the audio rights of Kuselan for a whopping Rs 2.2 crore, the highest for a Tamil album. The previous highest was for Rahman's Sivaji, again a Rajnikanth film.
It was Sreenivasan, the scriptwriter of the original Malayalam film Kadha Parayumbol, which inspired the Tamil and Telugu remakes, who as a tribute to his friend Suresh Chandran, lent Rs 75 so that he could pursue acting at the Film Chamber Institute in Chennai.
As the film celebrates friendship, the idea behind the audio release was also about paying tribute to the same. All the dignitaries -- K Balachander, P Vasu, Prakash, and Rajnikanth -- presented a copy of Kuselan's CD to their best friends.
K Balachander, the man behind Kavithalaya (one of the producers of Kuselan and Kadhanayakudu) gave a beautiful speech after handing over the CD of Kuselan to his best friend, director Bharatiraja.
"You need friends of your own age. And you make friends when you play tennis, cards or at a party. As I don't do any of these things, I don't have many friends. People my age are not there now, and those younger to me always keep me at a distance," said KB in his inimitable style.
Bharatiraja after accepting the CD said, "this is even precious than my Padmashree."
K Balachander fondly remembered a teenage music composer called A R Rahman when he first came to compose songs for his first film Roja, which was produced by Kavithalaya and directed by Mani Ratnam.
"At that time itself, I called Rahman a child prodigy. When I heard China Chinna Aasai, I told Mani Ratnam that it would be the song of the decade but it turned out to be the song of the century!
"But today's hero is another young man from the same family, who has inherited the music genius from his uncle. Prakash, is also another prodigy and today is his day."
Of Rajnikanth, KB fondly said, "People say I discovered Rajni but that is not true. I helped him discover himself. I would say Rajni is a black diamond I discovered three decades ago."
In turn, an emotional Rajni said, "KB Sir is my Appa, Amma and Guru."
